When the church was established in 2010, its members chose the name New Release Fellowship Baptist Church. Part of the inspiration came from the building where they met, which had once been a video store. Inside, a sign still pointed customers to the latest movies: “New Releases.” Although that sign may have sparked the name, the church members believed the words carried a far deeper meaning than a simple phrase. They felt the name beautifully expressed both their faith in Christ and the bond they share with one another. The word Release reminded them that through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross, they were freed from the penalty of sin and eternal death and given new life—eternal life. The word New reflected the transformation God had worked in them: a new heart, a new desire for holiness and righteousness, and a new ability through His Spirit to serve Him in obedient faith. In this name, they found a way to honor both the Savior who sets them free and the Spirit who makes them new. There is also one more “New Release” still to come. Through faith in Jesus Christ, they look forward to the day when they will be released from the burdens of this fallen world and welcomed into a new heaven and a new earth with the saints and their blessed Savior. This hope is why they gather each week to worship their Heavenly Father, trusting that one day He will call them home. Because they have been made new and released from spiritual bondage, they long for others to experience that same freedom from the penalty and power of sin. They want others to live with the same joyful assurance that they too will one day be delivered from the presence of sin and live forever in the glorious heaven God has prepared. For these reasons, they are New Release Fellowship Baptist Church.
